2. Turn Off the Gas. Locate the gas control knob (usually labeled "OFF," "PILOT," and "ON"). Turn it to the OFF position and wait 5 minutes to clear any lingering gas.
3. Remove the Metal Cover. Some models have a metal covering over the viewing window where you can see the pilot light. Remove this cover to gain visual access—do not open the entire access panel.
4. Set to Pilot Mode. Turn the gas control knob to PILOT. Press and hold the pilot button to allow gas to flow.
5. Ignite the Pilot. While holding the pilot button, press the red ignition switch multiple times until the pilot flame ignites. You should see a small blue flame through the viewing window.
6. Hold the Button. Keep holding the pilot button for 30-60 seconds to ensure the flame stays lit until the status light blinks. If the flame goes out, repeat the process.
7. Turn Gas Back On. Release the pilot button and turn the gas control knob to ON. The main burner should ignite within a few seconds.
