DIY: Garbage Disposal Smells

Ridding your sink of garbage disposal smells

  1. Clean the splash guard: The rubber part at the top of the disposal can get dirty. Remove it and scrub it with a brush and dish soap.
  2. Use baking soda and vinegar: Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda into the disposal, then add 1 cup of vinegar. It will fizz and bubble, which helps clean it. Wait a few minutes.
  3. Flush with hot water: Run hot water down the disposal for a minute to rinse away the loosened debris.
  4. Grind citrus peels: Put lemon or orange peels into the disposal and turn it on. The citrus helps to freshen up the smell.
